Qumranet is the proud sponsor, maintainer and catalyst behind the Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM) project, a global open source effort focused on integrating robust virtualization capabilities into the Linux kernel. The KVM virtualization solution has been officially included in Linux 2.6.20. The KVM hypervisor is a loadable module that has been designed to run as part of the kernel. KVM's architecture is optimized to utilize the native functionality of the underlying operating system (for now Linux). KVM also leverages the new virtualization capabilities built into the latest server and PC processors from Intel and AMD. It is designed to provide enterprise class performance with the lowest total cost of ownership.
